Evaluation Process
After each Creative Art Meditation session, we ask participants to self-evaluate themselves. We use the Toronto Mindfulness Scale (TMS; Lau et al., 2006) to assess the degree of mindfulness experienced during the session.
Mindfulness has been shown to improve self-regulation, ability to resolve inner conflicts, and objectivity and insight in the moment (Kabat-Zinn, J., 2003; Yu et al., 2021).
Data
One participant said, "I've never really painted before; I'm not really an artist. But look what I made! And I had a lot of fun."
Another participant said, "I wasn't sure at all where my painting would go when I started, and then I kept painting, and it was cool to watch it change as it happened."
A participant said, "I noticed I really didn't think about any real life things at all during this. I just focused on the process and let any other thoughts pass by."
One participant said, "There were a few times I thought I was making mistakes, and I wanted to start over. But then I decided not to let it get to me, and just go with what was happening on the canvas. My painting turned out great!"
